Welcome to SYLM...
Dear Friends,
The monarchist Community SYLM (Support Your Local Monarch), which we founded at the beginning of 2007 in order to allow everyone to meet and exchange safely and away from the usual political divisions, reached a first five-years step.
From the beginning, we focused on independence, innovation, total data security and proper moderation.
Independence. SYLM members represent the entire political landscape, from one extreme to the other, and we always respected this diversity by keeping the community itself away from any political party or community chapel whatsoever.
Innovation. By giving the monarchists the first political social network, more secure than online banking, we allowed them to find long lost friends, organize themselves in working groups, exchange classifieds, gather around nice dinners, quietly discuss on our forum, discover the diversity of the monarchist press and the existence of monarchists all around the world. All this without having to plunge into activism or confrontation.
Security. Our servers, our domains, our softwares, our money... SYLM was the only social network completely independent, self-sufficient and self-managed ; a handful of members helped to finance the cost of servers and I want to thank them. We have never been successfully hacked or data robbed, partly because our diversity and neutrality do not make us a target but also because our system operates in closed environment - contrary to all social networks - no ads, no gimmicks, no gateway for malware. Security is probably what is the least respected by Internet operators, for us it was a priority.
Moderation. With a team of smart moderators, we could hold our forums and counteract all the excesses, proselytism and attempts to overtake or discredit that such a project does not fail to attract. These moderators were also able to make a heavy survey on the Internet, to alert monarchists when a questionable or malicious enterprise rose up. This work has undoubtedly prevented some sordid manipulations and many disappointments.
So in five years, SYLM opened the way for a new monarchism. Far from princes, doctrines and common beliefs, we have promoted peaceful dialogue, a formal international perspective no one had imagined before and the development of new areas of exploration such as video, design, appropriation of whatever was not monarchist or the creation of a truly objective magazine, La Toile. With us, everything became monarchisable and we are proud to see that many have continued on this path.
But we must also recognize that the development of Facebook and social networks in Europe, in 2009, helped make the services SYLM had imagined less relevant. It is unfortunate that the monarchists have succumbed to the convenience of virtual fast food rather than trying to learn and build by and for themselves. This is the desease of the century ... we become frantic consumers of things we know nothing about and which disappear as fast as they appeared, destroying within a few moments thousands of information that everyone had made years to submit, thinking they would be virtually permanent.
It is not our philosophy. SYLM was founded to last regardless of any external factor, would it be financial or technical or human and to continue gathering monarchists of the world together around a common hope: to fight against the modern oligarchies and to work in order to put people back at the heart of states.
SYLM is dead, long live SYLM! You will discover new services during the year and you can continue to freely share on our Facebook page and tell us which services would help you live your monarchist life better.
Thank to everyone who contributed to the recognition and life of SYLM. This is a first bet won.
